A fast-action, high quality 10-12 weight is best suited for these fish allowing for repetitive casting, fighting the fish more aggressively and landing them quickly. Reels should have a smooth drag and large arbor with capacity of 300 yards of 30lb. backing. A weight forward floating line is best suited.
Leaders should be made up in a 20-30 lb. class. They require some skill and if you just take the necessary tippet materials, the guides will be happy to tie them for you.
