Inner Islands

The Seychelles is made up of 115 granitic and coralline islands situated approximately 1000 miles off the east coast of Africa and between 4 and 10 degrees south of the equator. It is what most people would describe as “unique” with each island having its own distinct characteristics

Extensions in the Seychelles:
As home to some of the world’s most famous island hideaways and beach hotels, the Seychelles is famous for offering the ultimate in relaxation and luxury. Many guests choose to extend their fly fishing holiday by adding a visit to another ‘inner’ or ‘outer’ (nearer or further from Mahe) island destination.

Praslin and La Digue:
The second largest island in the Seychelles, Praslin is home to a world heritage site known as the Vallee de Mai a 45 acre valley that was baptized as the Garden of Eden by General of Khartoum-fame. It is famed as the stronghold of the legendary Coco-de-mer palm, which is the world’s largest seed, and erotically shaped double nut. The island lies on hour by fast ferry or 15 minutes by air from Mahe. La Digue is the third largest island in terms of population and is ideal for a tranquil and relaxed holiday with its world renowned beaches. Bicycles make up for the main means of transportation. The island is a comfortable 30 minute boat ride from Praslin.

* Lemuria
The Lemuria Resort on Praslin has been open to visitors since December 1999 and is situated on the North West coast of the island. The hotel is situated on some of the finest beaches in the Seychelles and boasts an 18 hole championship golf course. It has its own fitness centre; PADI certified dive centre as well as a non motorized water sports facility.
* La Digue Island Lodge
Anse Reunion is home to the lodge built with local timber. It has 60 rooms in different styles ranging from junior suites, A – Frame cottages to Roundavel Chalets and the restored colonial yellow house. The hotels amenities include a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, boutiques, diving and snorkeling.

Curieuse Island:
The island is situated only one mile from Praslin and is strictly protected. There is a conservation project in place focusing on the Giant Tortoise from Aldabra Island. Walking on a raised path allows visitors to experience these amazing creatures as well as a mangrove forest.

St Pierre Island:
Forming part of the Curieuse National park, this island is a jewel among the inner island of the Seychelles and is an excellent site for snorkeling and diving.

Cousin Island:
Cousin Island has a massive seabird population and some of the rarest land birds on earth, including the Seychelles Warbler and Seychelles Magpie Robin. It is a favored nesting site for hawksbill turtles and during the season many nests are visible above the high water mark.

St Anne:
Both half and full day excursions make the island of St Anne as well as her neighbors Cerf, Moyenne and Round islands easily accessible from Mahe. They all form part of the St Anne Marine National Park, one of the first marine national parks of the Indian Ocean which was constituted in 1973. Renowned for its exquisite snorkeling and diving it boasts some of the most prolific coral reefs in the Seychelles.

Fregate Island:

Outer Islands:
The outer islands stretch for some 500 miles to the south of Mahe. Most of them are coralline and fall into five distinct groups: the Amirantes group, the Southern Coral group, the Alphonse group, the Farquhar group and the Aldabra group.

Desroche Island:
Desroche Island forms the heart of the Amirantes group of islands 40 minutes flight time from Mahe. The hotel is currently under construction and is due to reopen in September 2003.
* Desroche Island Resort
Desroche Island Resort comprises of 20 suites in double sea facing chalets. Its amenities include boat excursions to other islands in the Amirantes, fishing, bicycle hire, tennis court, diving centre, non motorized water sports, swimming pool, restaurant and bar.
