Over the past several seasons fly fishers have enjoyed world class fishing at St. Francois and frequently been amazed at what the fishery can deliver. Due to the impressive conservation ethics employed over former seasons by Vaughn, Head Guide Jude Morel (island fishery manager from the 2008 season onwards) and the entire guide team, the atoll group has become home to an astounding abundance and variety of flats species. 2007 was another very rewarding season, in particular as the best Giant Trevally season to date, the biggest of which measuring 130cm, one of many fish landed over 50 lbs, almost all taken ‘sight’ fishing. Among the many other positive notes during 2007 were the Milkfish that made a strong showing in the latter half of the season.
Aldabra Atoll:
Aldabra is the world’s largest coral atoll and is known for its unique and untouched environment. It is the home of 10 000 Giant Tortoises, the last remaining flightless bird in the Indian Ocean and many other unique land birds. It is the breeding site for many species of turtles and seabirds. 273 species of plants are found on Aldabra, 19 of them are endemic and 22 are only found in the Aldabra group. Aldabra became the world’s first UNESCO heritage site in 1982. Special permission is required for anyone wanting to visit Aldabra in order to protect its fragile eco-system.
